Stand up, sit down keep moving
Keeping active at work is essential to a healthy life.
PEOPLE who work in offices should keep active and be on their feet for at least two hours per day.
Guidance, published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, warns that UK sedentary behaviour now accounts for 60 per cent of people's waking hours and for 70 per cent of those at high risk of a long term condition.
Professor John Buckley, of the Institute of Medicine, said: "For those working in offices, 65 to 75 per cent of their working hours are spent sitting, of which more than 50 per cent of this is accumulated in prolonged periods of sustained sitting.
"The evidence is clearly emerging that a first 'behavioural' step could be simply to get people standing and moving more frequently as part of their working day."
