Expert personal trainer, Johnny Harrison, shows us how we can stay fit when our gym is closed because of lockdown.
If you can’t get to the gym or you don’t have time why not start your personal programme now?
Every exercise and exercise plan can and should be tailored to you. Programmes can be devised using your own body and the equipment around you.
Can you commit to three 20-minute sessions per week? If the answer is yes, that’s great. You are on the right track to a healthier future. If the answer is no, why not start smaller?
Four years ago, I had a particular client that wanted to lose weight.
We have covered goal setting in previous articles. Goals should always be specific to you, motivating and SMART. Drop us an email at hello@corporatepersonalfitness.com if you need any support and one of our personal trainers will be in touch.
This client had a busy lifestyle and diet was a factor but her body and mind needed movement. We set off on a six-week plan to lose 10lb in weight.
Her exercise commitment was three 5-minute sessions per week. It seemed such a small time to exercise but it was achievable and if you can’t commit to that why set challenges that would be unachievable?
Exercise should be habitual and enjoyable. People say “you should make time” well that is easy to say but not very motivating. It is much better to use the time you have got.
The 5 minutes could be:
- A five-minute walk
- Five minutes of stretching
- Five minutes of mobility
- Five minutes of bodyweight exercises
If you link all of those together you have a great 20-minute work-out. If it takes you six months to achieve that, well that is great. It’s better than spending six months wishing you had started.
Each week we increased the time by adding some mobility or stretching. As she lost weight she asked if I could help her ‘tone-up’. I created a bodyweight workout using the following exercises:
- Press-ups against the wall
- Squats using a chair for support
- Tricep dips
- Calf raises using a chair for support
These exercises can be progressed to increase the intensity of the programme, but they are also great exercises for movement and core stability.
My client went on to lose five stone in weight and feel the fittest and happiest she had been in years.
At Corporate Personal Fitness we utilise many elements of wellbeing when helping our clients devise the personal training plans.
They are all linked and if you give them all a little bit of your time you will begin to feel great. No gym required.
Don’t forget we are able help people during lockdown with virtual personal training consultations and our outdoor heated venue for one-to-one personal training.
