HOW TO STAY POSITIVE ON YOUR FITNESS JOURNEY

If you still haven’t managed to find an exercise routine that keeps you motivated and that you enjoy, please don’t give up.

Keep trying new things and focus on what you want to achieve. People tend to set similar goals such as, lose weight, build muscle or run a distance faster. If these goals motivate you, that’s fantastic, but it can be easy to feel demotivated when the results aren’t happening.

The problem with setting goals is that people tend to want everything NOW. Fitness is a journey and it is important you learn what works for you. Try to gauge your progress over six weeks rather than one week and make a diary of all training and food consumed. This will help you reflect and plan the next six weeks.

To get the benefits from exercise linked to your goals, there are a lot of physiological changes that need to occur, including muscle repair and rehydration which can have a timely effect on how your results show. This should be considered when embarking on a training regimen. Factor in rest days and don’t starve the body of the nutrients it needs to get the results you desire.

Exercise has many benefits aside from the common goals people tend to use to motivate themselves. These include improving mental health, reducing the risk of coronary heart disease (CHD), strengthening bones, reducing the risk of cancers, and even slowing down the ageing process.

Please consider this before losing motivation because you didn’t lose 2lb this week. You may have gained 1lb and you are so much healthier than you were last week.
